What is coaching, exactly?

Personal coaching, also referred to as life coaching, is definitely a unique and powerful relationship. Unlike therapy or counseling, which tends to focus on recovery, what is “wrong” with a person or situation, or the idea of “why am I where I am?”, coaching focuses on expanding and magnifying what is “right” with a client and creating a strategy to reach “where and who I want to be”.

Most clients have a general idea of where they would like to be in their lives, of what they want to accomplish and of who they want to be. Each client is different and comes to the table with a unique set of aspirations as well as obstacles. By working with a coach, individuals will make a conscious step toward claiming what they feel is their ideal present and future.

How to choose the right coach…

Hiring a personal coach means you have carefully chosen a partner who will help guide you toward achieving your dreams. Because this person is going to be involved in a very personal journey of yours, it is important to keep the following things in mind when determining whether or not the both of you are a good fit: Do you feel comfortable with the coach? Can you share your true feelings? Do you feel he or she can truly help you? Do you feel positive and empowered around them? Will they help you be accountable and moving toward your goals with steady progress? Can they offer insights to stimulate breakthroughs?

There needs to be a healthy balance of comfort and support mixed with direction and candid feedback. Only through true growth can clients reach places they have not been able to frequent in the past, and that takes work. Your coach should be someone you feel will be integral to your journey.

What does a coaching relationship with Erin Williams consist of?

Erin offers a free coaching phone consultation to begin with. During that consultation, which lasts approximately 30 minutes, the both of you will discuss your current situation and what you are hoping to achieve by hiring a personal coach. Through a series of questions, Erin will gather enough information to determine what type of program you might benefit from as well as whether or not she, personally, would be the right fit for you.

If the both of you decide to move forward and begin a coaching partnership, Erin will make recommendations for a program to best serve your needs and suit your goals. The both of you will custom design a schedule that may include weekly meetings in person, via phone, or both with email follow ups. Working with Erin also includes “homework” that will be done in between sessions. Most coaching programs, due to the nature of the work, require at least a 2-3 month commitment.
